The blurb was in my previous blog post, but here it is again:

Cameron Carmichael used to be on top of the world – literally – as a World Snooker Champion and World Number One. These days, his mood is sinking faster than his ranking. Only thirty-one and barely holding on to his top-16 placement, his automatic pass into all the big tournaments, Cameron’s considering retirement.

It might be time to hang up his snooker cue; the only thing keeping him on the circuit is a taste for the finer things in life and snooker does pay very well. And there’s something else he has to deal with – an unavoidable attraction to Ryan Miller, a cocky young challenger with an eye for the trophies that used to be Cameron’s.

I’m not going to take it easy, though. I want to maintain the momentum I’ve built up, and finish another book. I’ve previously mentioned Family Jewels, a what I call ‘BDSM-lite’ novel, which focuses more on the mindfuckery side of things and the rules of this particular relationship, rather than whips, chains and floggers. I have to say, it’s one of my personal favourites even though it’s not finished yet because of the humour and the fact the characters are a lot of fun to write. I hope they seem as real to the readers when the book’s published.

According to my spreadsheet, I’ve written 53k words and have another 15k to go. At a rough guess, it’ll be done in a week or two. Meanwhile, if you read Deep Screw, be sure to let me know what you think of it, good or bad, and what you’d like to read more of.

Cover reveal – Deep Screw

Three quarters into February and as yet unpublished in 2017 but fret ye not, I have been working on Deep Screw and IT’S ACTUALLY FINISHED. I remember saying, might have been on Twitter, that I’d do a cover reveal when the first draft was done but I’ve held off until now, so there won’t be too long between the reveal, and me hitting ‘publish’ on Amazon.

I’m doing a final (I hope) read-through just to check for…well, I don’t know what. Hoping to get this online and available sometime tomorrow. Meanwhile, here’s the cover, done by James at GoOnWrite.com, followed by the blurb:deep-screwCameron Carmichael used to be on top of the world—literally—as a World Snooker Champion and World Number One. Quick update

Not blogged in a few days, but I have been writing. Promise. My momentum’s slowed down a little, sad to say, and I have no-one else to blame but myself. And tiredness. I’ve had a few real-life matters to deal with, which involve paperwork and offices and queuing here and there, waiting for someone to rubber-stamp a form I’ve filled in and so on, and by the time I get home I’m knackered. I put that down to the amount of migraine medication I’m on not giving me many ‘clear-headed’ hours in the day.

Total for the year so far is 13,877 words. Less than other authors have achieved, I know, but far more than I myself did in the entirety of last year. I’ve had four zero days in January, which means I could have had another 8,000 words if I’d met my daily target. Two Sundays, a Wednesday and a Thursday. It might seem a bit anal of me to record such details, but in the future it may enable me to look back and see on which days I’m most tired, or out of the house, or plain old lazy. Then I can prepare for that, try to mitigate the circumstances which lead to coming up with sweet F.A. all day long.

So. Deep Screw. How’s that coming along? 39,594 words. So much for it being a short novella of around 25k words if I’m lucky! A shade under the 40k mark and, honestly? I’ll be lucky if it comes in under 45k.  When I outline, my outlines are so baggy, with so much ‘give’ in them, that I discover things along the way, in the writing, that lead me down other paths and necessitate adding a couple of chapters here and there.

I hoped to finish this book last week, but those other paths meant that didn’t happen. With a bit of luck, and if I push myself, I should finish this weekend, and I’ll be able to blog my cover reveal, something I promised myself I’d only do when the manuscript was finished.

Back to work for me, then.

More stories. Nice ones.

After my previous blog post I thought it appropriate to move on to what I’m working on these days. It’s going to be pretty hard getting back into any manuscript I began months back and in one case, years, but it would be a shame to just leave them unfinished. They may not make me rich but they certainly won’t earn me anything, merely taking up space on my hard drive.

I have two books for which I bought cover art way-back-when. I’ve mentioned them both before but as I’ve deleted all previous blog posts in the spirit of fresh starts, I’ll recap.

The book I started writing years ago is called Family Jewels. It’s embarrassing how long ago I started work on it. Something like five years. As things stand, it’s loaded into Scrivener and totalling 54k words, although how accurate Scrivener’s word count is, I don’t know. I’ve noted in the past that it differs from MS Word’s but not by too much. I have another 5 chapters to write. Shouldn’t take too much typing time, but of course I’ll need to get back into the story first, which will require re-reading what I have of the manuscript so far and going over my notes with a fine-tooth comb. M/F, BDSM-lite, meaning things get a wee bit saucy but not what you’d call kinky.

The other project for which I have cover art is Deep Screw, a M/M sports romance. Three chapters to fully write and another to wrap up (more or less done). As my current word count sidebar widget suggests, I’m 67% through with another 11k words to write. As this is the shorter of the two books with (probably) the smaller number of words needed for completion, this is the one I’ll choose to go back to first. Re-reading what I’ve already done won’t take as long as diving back in to FJ.

There’s that, and the fact Bronwyn Green read my previous blog post, saw the sidebar widget and DM’d me on Twitter, “OH MY GOD YOU HAVE A BOOK CALLED DEEP SCREW YOU NEED TO WRITE THIS NOW.”

I’ll post the cover art for DS when I’ve finished the first draft. As I’m only just getting back into this, I don’t want to over-estimate my writing speed and stamina, especially as I now have a day job and other things with which to concern myself, but at a rough guess I’d say I’ll be done with DS by the end of October.

Which leaves me just enough time to make a decision on whether or not to participate in NaNoWriMo this year…
